For all of you coffee lovers out there, Downtown has found the ultimate cold brew coffee. Wandering Bear Coffee is the cold brew to drink this summer and the best thing is that they deliver!

What Is It?

While Wandering Bear still in its infancy, founder Matt Bachmann and his partner were shockingly pleased with how much Wandering Bear became popular in the Lower Manhattan areas.

“Of course we hoped that people would love the coffee as much as we did… and that they would find convenience in the new daily routine we were trying to create,” Bachmann said. “But we’re still elated every time we hear someone say, ‘Hey! We have that in our office/apartment/share-house, people love it!’ I’ll admit though, we’re still very young with our company and have a ways to go. The early signs have been encouraging though.”

How Do They Do It?

The process is very intensive and provides a lot of care. Matt Bachmann, founder of Wandering Bear Coffee described the process.

“We begin with freshly roasted coffee [it is] roasted especially for us each week in Brooklyn; the fresh coffee is a very important part. The coffee is ground at our roaster and delivered to our kitchen facility in Long Island City, Queens. At that point, we mix the coffee in a large tank with cold, filtered NYC tap water. From there, it’s 18 hours of patient waiting. After the overnight brew, we come back to the kitchen, filter the sludgy coffee and water mixture and get ready to package it. It’s a labor of love for sure. But really great coffee comes out on the other end, so it’s all worth it.”

With the always smooth and bold taste, you’ll find that Wandering Bear Cold Brew is never bitter and always satisfying, especially on humid summer days in the city. And with every passionate company, comes a philosophy of their own.

Bachmann stated, “Drink what you like! We’re into trial and experimentation and try not to stay beholden to too many rules (or myths). At the end of the day, it’s all about taste, and that’s subjective to each consumer.”

Wandering Bear Cold Brew couldn’t be more simple.

They are purists when it comes to their coffee. They are focused on their straight, black cold brew, but patrons are welcome to add to it as they wish. The team at Wandering Bear experiments with new flavors and concepts often, but at the end of the day they have yet to land on one that’s as delicious as the original.

Where Did They Find Their Inspiration?

Bachmann said his inspiration for Wandering Bear came from problem solution.

“Honestly, we were solving a problem for ourselves. We would make large batches of cold brew in our apartments and store them in pitchers,” Bachmann said. “But after a few days, the coffee would go stale (same if it were in an open bottle, for example). We needed a way to keep multiple servings of coffee fresh. Because of our packaging, we can do so for up to a month. The convenience of having cold brew at the push of a button is an added bonus, and perhaps the most addictive part (well, after the caffeine, of course).”

And it’s absolutely genius!
