Celebrate Pride with Drinks and Dumplings this Month

by | Jun 13, 2017 | Culture, Dining, Uncategorized

June is National Pride Month. Looking for unique ways to celebrate Pride? We’ve compiled a collection of food and drink specials, classes and other funky ways to show off your colors this month of June. Festivities complete with pasta, purple drinks and parades are sure to be as delicious as they are colorful.

Eat or Create Rainbow Dumplings

Rainbow foods are all the rage right now (doughnuts, bagels and the infamous Unicorn frappuccino may come to mind). Now, you can add dumplings to the ever-growing trend. It may sound kooky, but Top Chef alum Frances Tariga, executive chef at Megu Japanese restaurant, is hosting a fun and instructive course on how to make kaleidoscopic dumplings on June 20. Choose from chicken, seafood or vegan fillings at this popular Japanese restaurant. Class also includes select hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, sake, and, of course, plenty of dumplings to go around. A portion of proceeds will go to The Center, which supports the LGBT community. For a fun take on a classic Japanese cuisine, register here for $135.

Even if cooking isn’t for you, you can still get a taste of Megu’s colorful dumplings, which are available the whole month of June. Tariga uses vegetable juices to make her colorful dumplings, which come delivered to your table in a bamboo basket. Taste the rainbow today for $18. Megu is located at 355 West 16th St.

Food and Drink Specials

Tavo

For this year’s NYC Pride Day, this Sunday June 25, Tavo in the West Village will offer a variety of food and drink specials at their bar starting at noon. The restaurant, which is usually closed on Sundays, will open its doors during and after the The March to serve up their signature cocktails as well as small plate dishes like Lotus Root crackers, Pork Shoulder Tacos and Baby Corn with Aji Amarillo.
Tavo is located at 615 Hudson St.

Five Napkin Burger

Another take on colorful creations to celebrate Pride, 5 Napkin Burger in Hell’s Kitchen is commending Pride Month with a Purple Velvet Old Fashioned cocktail. The drink is available only for the month of June and is made with Velvet Falernum, Flor de Cana 18 Year Rum, bitters and fresh twists of citrus. Served with a purple ice ball, the regal drink is $12 this month.
5 Napkin Burger is located at 630 Ninth Ave.
