As the adage goes, ‘If you want something done right, do it yourself.’ The sentiment became a reality for Tiffany Masterson when venturing into the world of skincare. Founder of skincare line, Drunk Elephant, Masterson developed her products to embody a non toxic ethos, creating a product that she had yet to find on the market.

Masterson stated, “We give our skin way too much credit for being ‘sensitive’ and ‘easily irritated’.  Could it be that it’s the ingredients found in most skin care products are causing these issues and it’s not our skin after-all?  I think we need to focus a bit more on what a product is going to do for us and how it’s going to do it…and what each ingredient is there for.”

Drunk Elephant is a ‘clinical meets natural’ concept she developed after years of searching for the right product. Opposed to others on the market filled with sulfates, parabens, dyes, and harsh fragrances. Masterson’s goal was to create a line that was clinically effective, low-hazard and non irritating. Her role in the process is very active; ideas blossom into development, as Masterson hands picks ingredients and collaborates with her chemist until product completion.

Gauging whether her line was open to expansion, Masterson expressed, “Hair care is a possibility.  I’d love to do that because I think our breakouts on the face, back and chest can oftentimes be attributed to ingredients in our shampoo and conditioner.”

Besides retailing online, the products can be found downtown, in Kirna Zabete; a luxury, designer retail shop. Drunk Elephant is the only skincare brand they carry in store.

Sarah Easley, co-founder of Kirna Zabete, says Drunk Elephant is the sole skin care brand residing in her store because the products are great quality, “Once I starting using the line, especially the juju bar and the marula facial oil, I started really seeing results!”
