This beach season, you may be wronging your skin by burning under the sun’s vicious rays, so start it off by doing some good; and we’re talking charity good!
amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, has joined forces with acclaimed visual artist Shantell Martin to raise awareness and funds to finding the cure for HIV/AIDS with the release of a limited edition beach towel.
Martin’s artwork is distinguished for its bold and intricate line illustrations in the shape characters, creatures and messages, which welcome viewers to be part of the artist’s creations. Martin continues her conscious doodle style by using the towel’s black-and-white illustration to encourage the movement to #BEEPICCUREAIDS.
The towel marks the first collaboration in the ongoing partnership between the organization and Martin. Martin will “draw for the cause” on June 16 at amfAR’s Inspiration Gala New York, and on June 23 at the generationCURE Solstice event, also to be held in the city.
amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost says, “through Martin’s engaging visual narrative, we hope this fashionable item becomes a conversation piece this summer about the importance of supporting research to find a cure for HIV.”
The towel’s inscription, “Be Epic, Cure AIDS” is a nod towards amfAR’s “Countdown to Cure AIDS” initiative to find a cure for the disease by 2020. For the past 30 years, amfAR has dedicated $415 million to awarding grants to more than 3,300 research teams worldwide.
You can purchase the towel for $40 and have the satisfaction of knowing that 100% of the proceeds will support research towards finding a cure for HIV/AIDS. The towel is sold at Scoop NYC locations and on amfAR’s website.
Help find a cure for the disease by sharing this beach towel on social media with the hash-tag #BEEPICCUREAIDS.
