On July 18, Joseph Gross Gallery hosted an opening reception for Fire Power—Alison Mosshart of The Kills and The Dead Weather’s first-ever solo exhibition. Fire Power will run until July 11 and showcases 127 of Mosshart’s pieces, including drawings, paintings, tapestries and mixed media.

The collection mimics encounters and experiences Mosshart has had on the road touring with her two bands—including self portraits, arguments she has observed and vibrant-colored tire mark paintings she designed using remote control cars (e.g., Test Drive and Big Red).

Mosshart is a self-taught artist and creator, and crafts work on the road touring whenever she has the opportunity. She recently started to work in a larger studio space, which has allowed her to expand on pieces and take on more sizeable projects.

One of the tapestries in Fire Power—a burnt-red colored Persian rug that reads “magic” takes up an entire studio wall. The rug is old and rectangular-shaped.
