New York City firefighters gathered at City Hall on Wednesday to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the FDNY and to honor select firefighters with the highest of city awards for their service and bravery. Family, friends and fellow department members attended to show their support of the medal recipients and the New York City Fire Department.

The honored firefighters included Adam C. Bishop, from Ladder 170 (assigned) and Ladder Company 110 (Detailed), who bravely saved a man hanging out of the fifth floor of a burning building; Robert Rufh, from Ladder Company 32, who saved two children from a structural fire; and EMS Lt. Thomas Schulz and Paramedic Silvana Uzcategui, from Station 35, who saved a man with cardiac arrest from a burning building on New Year’s Eve under stressful circumstances, as well as many other heroic members of the FDNY.

“[The ceremony] represents the efforts, the heroics. It’s a normal line of work but yet it’s above and beyond,” said Firefighter Mike MaGuire, of the 64 Bronx, who was there to support two members of 42nd truck, Anthony Reynolds and Clint Mueller.
