For Léman Manhattan Preparatory School’s senior class, the next few months are full of anticipation and excitement. Many have officially accepted their offer letters to their top-choice colleges or universities, and now anxiously wait for their post-secondary education journey to begin after graduating on June 4th. Just over 50 students represent the third graduating class of this 10-year independent school, situated in the Financial District.
Located in the city’s fastest-growing neighborhood, Léman has become a beacon for lower Manhattan’s increasing number of families seeking a highly personalized PreK-12 education in a global setting. The school’s two campuses comprise nearly 400,000 square feet in facility-rich real estate, featuring two pools, full-size gyms, cafeterias, and art studios, plus a rooftop playground at the Lower School.
Named after its 60-year old sister school Collège du Léman in Geneva, Switzerland, Léman Manhattan fosters global citizens with an appreciation for other cultures through its emphasis on collaboration with other students across the world. As one of 10 institutions in the Meritas International Family of Schools, Léman Manhattan is able to offer students unique opportunities to work with their peers via video conferencing on research projects, participation in special academic, athletic and arts events, and study abroad opportunities at sister Léman schools in China and Switzerland.
Léman Manhattan also provides academic programs that differentiate students on college applications and prepare them to succeed in today’s highly competitive global economy. For example, in 2014 the school was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School; in 2013 it launched its Strings Program which utilizes the violin to better develop critical thinking and creativity; and as early as preschool, students receive Mandarin language instruction.
As the only New York City independent school with established sister campuses around the world, Léman Manhattan provides a “world view from every classroom” and a personalized experience for each child. With a bespoke Personalized Learning Plan for every K-12 student, the school’s world-class teachers and staff identify each child’s strengths, areas for development, and interests in order to set goals and create a roadmap to achieve them. With nearly 600 students and a 6:1 faculty student ratio, Léman Manhattan is able to give children the world in a highly personalized setting.
Léman Manhattan remains poised for growth as more families and international businesses flock to lower Manhattan. The school has plans to continue to enhance its curriculum in order to provide students with global learning opportunities and experiences – both inside and outside the classroom – that are second to none in New York City.
