MIKIMOTO AMERICA LAUNCHES “PEARLS FOR PROGRESS”

WITH VOSS FOUNDATION

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Kokichi Mikimoto first introduced the cultured pearl to the world in 1893, and though the fine pearl jewelry offerings have since evolved, nature continues to be the heart and inspiration for the brand.

Mikimoto America launches “Pearls for Progress,” a campaign funding access to clean water in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Together with Voss Foundation, Mikimoto will support the development of sustainable water systems and donate 10 percent of jewelry sales generated from fundraising events to the foundation’s mission.

Today, 844 million people lack access to a basic drinking water source.  A large majority live in Sub-Saharan Africa.  In 8 out of 10 households with water off premises, water collection is the responsibility of women and girls.  They physically and mentally bear the burden of providing this precious resource to their families, sacrificing their health, time and education to do so.

With “Pearls for Progress,” Mikimoto envisions change for millions of people in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially in the lives of women and girls, empowering communities with opportunities for a healthier, better future.
