The 68th Annual Tony Awards are being held this Sunday where the Broadway productions of the 2013-14 season will be honored with Broadway’s equivalent to the Academy Awards. The ceremony, which will take place at Radio City Music Hall for a second consecutive year, will be broadcast by CBS at 8 p.m. EST, along with 30 other countries receiving the live broadcast as well.
This year’s awards will be hosted by Hugh Jackman, replacing the Master of Ceremonies for the last three years, Neil Patrick Harris. The X-men actor is no stranger to the spotlight at the Tony’s as he hosted the them for three straight years in the early 2000’s and received an award for his leading role in “The Boy from Oz” in 2004.
Some of the night’s nominated musicals will have a chance to perform for the international audience: Neil Patrick Harris will lead the cast of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Sutton Foster with the cast of Violet, Alan Cumming with the cast of Cabaret, and Idina Menzel from If/Then will perform solo. The ensembles of Aladdin, Les Misérables, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Bullets Over Broadway, and Rocky the Musical will also perform songs from their nominated productions.
Furthermore, The cast of Wicked will celebrate their 10th anniversary by taking center stage, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and Fantasia together will put on a performance with the cast of this year’s nominee, After Midnight, and rock legend Sting will also be in the lineup with a song from his upcoming musical, The Last Ship.
