6 Fashion Trends for Summer 2017

by | Jun 1, 2017 | Fashion

With Memorial Day weekend behind us, summer will soon be in full swing. It’s time to ditch spring sweaters and drab denim and embrace the warmer, sunnier side of fashion. Swimsuits, sunglasses, sandals and straw hats are always summer essentials, and this year they’re sticking around.

With some help from the uber stylish fashion research app Hook, we’ve rounded up the best new fashion trends of summer 2017. Trendspotters: this one’s for you.

Simply straw

Straw has played a role in style for hundreds of years (Vincent van Gogh knew what was up when he painted this self-portrait), and it still has a place in 2017. This summer only the floppiest of hats and the slouchiest of bags will do in the way of straw accessories. This hat will keep your face protected whilst lounging, and this bag will store all your necessaries for a perfect day at the beach.

Bold sunglasses

Big and bold sunnies are having a moment, so this summer you’ll want to throw some seriously stylish shade with a loud pair of sunglasses. A colorful frame, creative shape or tinted lens will add a shout to your look, and keep the rays off your face at the same time. There’s nothing like a sleek pair of shades for equal parts style and functionality.

One pieces

Good news for all those in favor of the modest-is-the-hottest policy: one pieces are stealing the spotlight from bikinis. For the first time in years, one pieces are outselling two pieces, according to analytics from Hook. Cue the sighs of relief. Discover new ways to cover with one piece swimwear from your favorite brands, or with one of these mod looks from Anthropologie, J.Crew, Tory Burch and Kate Spade.

Sunny dresses

Sundresses are nothing new, but recent years have gifted us with the ever-chic off-the-shoulder trend. The typical characteristics of a sundress (colorful, floralgraphic prints, flowy) pair beautifully with a sassy off-the-shoulder cut.

Espadrilles

Your favorite stitched and braided canvas shoe is back. This season brings a slew of new ways to rock the espadrille, which was originally coined for its use of the esparto grass native to north Africa. So channel your inner safari seeker and slip on one of these comfortable pairs.

Kids swim

Who says your tike can’t rock these summer trends too? Colorful swimwear with bold prints and patterns are a must-buy for children this summer. Trunks, two pieces, one pieces, rash guards and coverups are all available in the season’s best shades and styles.
