The Zombies Live…At The Cutting Room
September 20th, 2013
Packing the vocal and musical chops that bands four decades younger would kill to have, Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent, two of the creative forces behind one of the most influential bands in rock history—The Zombies—blew the roof off the spectacular performance space in the new Cutting Room last night.
The duo, armed with only a piano and pair of mics rocked the house with a suite of their iconic hits including “Tell Her No,” and debuted their first-ever music video for the song “Any Other Way,” from their new album, Breathe In, Breathe Out, demonstrating their enduring power and relevance.
The video was shot at the venue a couple of months back and the duo performed a live version for a packed room of media, industry luminaries and longtime fans of the band who all showed equal levels of appreciation for what is one of the most influential and egregiously overlooked bands of the British Invasion…and even rock history.
The group is wrapping up its third tour this year and drew rave reviews for “immaculate vocal harmonies,” which were clearly on evidence last night.
The band’s unique arrangements and harmonies on monster hits like “Time of the Season” and “She’s Not There,” provided profound influence for later artists from Tom Petty to Dave Grohl of Nirvana and the Foo Fighters.
Blunstone and Argent’s performance and patter with the audience was entertaining and dynamic, never venturing into pure nostaligia, but steeped with memories of how great their music and influence remains, giving credence to a scientific fact—Zombies never die.
