DOWNTOWN Mourns the Loss of a Great Friend
October 24th, 2012
DOWNTOWN Magazine is deeply saddened to report the loss of a dear member of our family, Donald F. Roland Sr., who passed away peacefully at the age of 84 from pneumonia on Wednesday. Mr. Roland is the father of Dr. Donald Roland, one of the founding members of the DOWNTOWN Magazine Advisory Board and one of the leading members of the Downtown community. Moreover, Dr. Roland provided a good deal of the inspiration and support to CEO and Publisher Grace Capobianco to actually launch our magazine.
Born in Mt. Vernon, Mr. Roland was a United States Army veteran, a former longtime driver for the United Parcel Service and later a Scarsdale School District employee for more than 25 years before his retirement in 2011. He was married to Beatrice Byrne for 51 years and was a devoted family man who is also survived by his daughter Mary Ellen Molloy and another son, James of Eastchester, along with three grandchildren, Dana, Remy, Jimmy.
We ask all of you to join us sending our well wishes to our dear friends Dr. Roland, his wife, Fatima and all their loved ones during this difficult time.
