Downtown Magazine was honored to attend the Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts’ 2011 New York City Gala in honor of renowned actress and performer Vanessa Williams and JP Morgan Chase & Co. Chief Administrative Officer, Frank Bisignano.
The event featured the incredible talents of students and recent grads of the University in both the worlds of fashion and the performing arts. The evening began with a fashion show at One Chase Manhattan Plaza featuring the top collections from seniors in the Department of Design. This was followed by a benefit dinner for the college at the Vault at Bobby Van’s Steakhouse where recent grads performed in a cabaret setting.
Williams, the breakout star of the class of ’85, received the 2011 Icon of Style Award given to the alum who is seen to be bold and innovative in the world of fashion. Meanwhile, Bisignano, was awarded the Dean’s Award of Distinction, given to those exhibit the values and mission of college in both their careers and lives.

Special guests at the event included the University’s celebrated basketball coach of more than three decades, Jim Boeheim, and his wife Julie, who presented Ms. Williams with her award.
Also in attendance were Downtown Magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board Chairman, Dr. Donald Roland, as well as our CEO and Publisher, Grace Capobianco who credited the University for having a major positive influence on the Downtown community.
