Downtown Magazine recently attended an opening night exhibition of the contemporary glass artwork of rapidly rising designer, Abby Modell as part of the International Exposition of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art (SOFA) New York at the Park Avenue Armory.
Downtown’s CEO and Publisher, Grace A. Capobianco, Editor in Chief, Andrea Tullman and Fashion Editor, Amanda Orlinsky joined other New York City news personalities such as Jane Hanson and Channel 5’s Rosanna Scotto in a show of support for Modell at the event.
The exhibit showcased three different Modell collections:
The first “Organic Rainbow 44,” featured fluid shapes and colors found in nature’s sky are contrasted with cut and polished angular glass reminiscent of earth’s formations. The second, “Puzzle Series #2,” focused on sandblasted cut-outs create flowing negative shapes and spaces. Finally, her newest sculpture series titled, “Dionysus,” was also on view.
Modell’s work has been displayed at numerous presitious art shows around the country including Art Basel Miami Beach, Kips Bay Decorator Show House, Hampton Designer Showhouse and the Architectural Digest Home Show.
